Devil at play: The Devil showed up in Killington to reclaim his Golden Fiddle, only to find it had been traded for a pair of Rockers with some kick and sizzle. Once more the Devil challenged Johnny, now known as Father John Witt. A race down the Devil’s Fiddle for a pair of Golden K2s. The story’s the same, the skis for John’s soul.
Off the headwall they came, the Devil had his game. Lightning fast, he beat John down. Grinning horn to horn, “I’ll be the talk of the town! So, give me your soul,” shouted the devil.
Johnny replied, “Devil, you’ve done good today,” wiping back tears. “But it’s been thirty years and I ain’t got no soul to give.” The Devil smiled with a glare and said, “Johnny, let’s get a Roaring Brook beer.”
